Remember, finding any job - full-time, part-time or even temporary is a full-time job!
Did you know that 65 to 70% of the jobs available are not even listed on line or in any print media such as newspapers? What we suggest is that you build your own network of opportunities.
HERE'S JUST ONE IDEA: Recent statistics from the US Department of Labor shows that about 80% of the advertised jobs are from staffing companies. Recent figures show about 60-percent of the temporary jobs from staffing companies can become permanent. Many employers are turning to the staffing industry to find qualified people because of the low cost and broader talent pool. It's a win-win situation for everyone in several ways.
1. Employers can evaluate the potential worker to see it they will fit into their business. 2. The worker can see if they even wants to work for a company permanently. 3. It is a cost-effective way for businesses to find good help. 4. Opens up new doors to the job seeker. 5. Staffing companies are age-neutral employers - they like the seasoned worker. 6. Staffing company services are free to workers and such services don't get paid until you do. They certainly belong on your networking team.
Improve your chances and expand the possibilities by signing up with all the staffing companies in your area. Their services are free so stay in contact with them. Assignments and opportunities change regularly. Make them your friends and advisors.
When you're networking, every connection becomes important. Opening up your world to new life spaces is a great way to find employment, make some great new friends and uncover new adventures in your life.

WAIT A MINUTE!
So you have decided to get a job. You're proud of your experience and expect employers to hire you in a minute. From what you've seen around your town you're just what many businesses need to make more money and become more successful. By the time you're done, they'll be clamoring to hire you. WAIT A MINUTE! ENOUGH ALREADY!
Why do we think, just because we're older and have experienced so much, that we're so much smarter and valuable? Yes, we have learned a lot. Yes, we have had many experiences. Yes, we can become good employees. But first we need to look at ourselves and how we'll fit in to a new company job.
We hear complaints about the attitude of young people toward work. What about our own attitudes? The employer deserves respect no matter what the job is. The wrong attitude on our parts will only alienate everybody in the business from the owner, manager to the rest of the staff.
It's so easy to make the wrong impression. If you have that much to contribute, then use some of the other skills you've learned, start with patience and understanding. The exceptional person doesn't tell everyone what to do, they inspire people. Encouragement is by example. Decisions are made through collaboration.
Yes we're seasoned and deserve respect, but these new people don't know that. Just like every other part of our lives, we need to earn and show respect. That means giving as well as receiving appreciation. Whatever you do, decide to do go easy and have fun with it.
